"As a standalone organization, NABNP offers the first formal, concerted effort within the ND community to boldly address biases and confront micro-aggressions that have the potential to divide our collective; furthermore it offers a pathway to engage both familiar and innovative cultural/racial healing archetypes, modalities, educational approaches and best practices to close the health-access gap for communities of color."
- Dr. Shavon
The National Association of Black Naturopathic Physicians (NABNP) is a member-driven collective of credentialed, doctorate-level trained Naturopathic Physicians and student physicians of the African diaspora.
As a member-driven collective, the National Association of Black Naturopathic Physicians (NABNP) is inspired and commissioned by the Congolese proverb, ‘A single bracelet does not jingle’. To impact the communities, culture, and practice of Naturopathic Medicine, communal interest and collective effort are essential.
Undergirded by the tenants of Naturopathic Medicine, including:
NABNP-membered, doctorate-level trained Naturopathic Physicians, student physicians, and affiliates will seek the equitable appeal to, promotion of, and application of these tenants within communities of color.
"The mission, vision, and goals set forth by the NABNP are long overdue, and now have a space and the structure to take hold. I am incredibly proud to be involved with this effort and look forward to NABNP's growth and development."
- Dr. Safiya
NABNP was commissioned to internally support Black Naturopathic doctors and students and externally support communities of color that may have convergent needs that are unique, may have gone unnoticed or have been inefficiently met, through efforts of activism, education, mentorship and outreach.

"Representation Matters! I believe this organization is important because there is a great need to have representation in medicine, and Naturopathic Medicine is no different.
- Dr. Turshá
"NABNP was organized in direct response to the painfully obvious, public 'reveal' of racial disparities and systemic prejudices colliding under and within the pressures of 2020's global pandemic. Like a crowning mother experiencing the simultaneous pain and joy of birthing a child, being a founding member has been as raw and indurating as it has been healing and inspiring."
~ Dr. Shavon - NJ
"It is so important that we as Black Naturopathic Physicians and Students have a place to gather and learn from one another so that we can thrive and grow, especially in our current climate and for years to come.
I am happy to be a founder and look forward to the growth of this organization and its collective membership"
~ Dr. Samm - MI
The formation and existence of NABNP is vital to ensure the success of Black Naturopathic Physicians.
The collaborative spirit that sits at the core of this organization will help support and propel Black Naturopathic Physicians and the communities that they serve onward and upward."
~ Dr. Micah - DC
"The why behind creating The National Association of Black Naturopathic Physicians, to me, is simple. It is necessary for those of us in this field to know and see, who and where we are in this profession. This organization will foster and nurture a learning community that centers aspiring and practicing Black naturopathic physicians. It will address our needs as practitioners in this field and the unique needs of the communities that we plan to and currently serve."
~ Dr. Safiya - MD
NABNP is a much needed organization serving the very specific needs for Black Naturopathic Physicians and the communities of color at large ultimately helping to eliminate health disparities.
~ Dr. Jaquel - CT
"Representation Matters! I believe this organization is important because there is a great need to have representation in medicine, and Naturopathic Medicine is no different. Us being here, being present, and being visible is important to help the profession thrive, to show our patients and future patients that we are here, and to expose future NDs of Color to all that is possible in medicine. It's also important that we are able to support each other while we all build."
